Grounding Stones of August — Week 2

Standing Strong in Shifting Seasons
August, the last month of summer (it changes to fall on September 20th) brings lingering summer heat, changing routines, and the pull of autumn. Kids head back to school, schedules pick up, and yet the afternoons can still feel slow. We may feel scattered, unsteady, or drained because of all sorts of changes.
Black onyx and similar stones are useful in this scenario. The dark, smooth appearance of black onyx has made it a prized stone for hundreds of years, and it is said to bring mental clarity, emotional grounding, and quiet fortitude. I am making these bracelets this month for my Etsy store. I have worn mine and found things to be a little easier in the changing atmosphere of the month.

My Theory in why I am studying this:
In this section, I will be bringing in my theory of the seven Spirits of God in Isaiah 11:2-3a. I believe that when we were created; we were created with: The aforementioned seven Spirits of God, The Tabernacle of Christ, and the Redemptive Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Spiritually they reside in us in the areas of our bodies in the:
Brain: Spirit of the Lord, Brazen Altar, Prophet.
Eyes: Spirit of Wisdom, Bronze Laver, Servant
ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat): Spirit of Understanding, Showbread, Teacher
Heart: Spirit of Counsel, Seven Lampstands (All Seven Spirits are within the Spirit of Counsel -the heart is connected to all seven organs mentioned), Exhorter
Stomach: Spirit of Might, Altar of incense, Giver
Female organs and misc: Spirit of Knowledge, Ark of the Covenant, Ruler
Male organs and misc: Spirit of the Fear (reverence) of the Lord, Mercy Seat, Mercy
I will be relating to the last one for the next few blog posts.
As I have started saying with what I write, you can spit out the bones and just eat the meat.
Elements and Compostion:
Chalcedony, a microcrystalline quartz composed of silicon dioxide, includes black onyx. Layering is common, and while it can be various colors, the purest, deepest black is best for grounding.
Macrocrystalline stones (like amethyst or citrine) mirror larger systems in the body (organs, bones, nerves).
Microcrystalline stones (like onyx, jasper, chalcedony) mirror the cellular level of the body — the fine details of tissues, skin, and blood.
That means Black Onyx could point to the cellular foundation of our physical being — almost like the “roots” of how God knit us together. Spiritually, this aligns with grounding, stability, and reverence (Fear of the Lord) as the foundation of everything else.
We’ve discussed silicon dioxide a few times already. It’s part of the Quartz family and in our bodies in the following locations:

Connective tissue–silicon plays a role in forming collagen, the protein that strengthens skin, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.
Bones & teeth–it supports bone mineralization and helps calcium bind properly.
Blood vessels–found in the walls of arteries and veins, contributing to elasticity
Skin, hair, nails–strengthens keratin and collagen, supporting resilience and shine.
Immune system–trace amounts of silicon are in lymph nodes, thymus, and spleen.
Silicon Dioxide fits in the grounding theme as the very areas it helps support are part of the structure, its own grounding sequence.
This reflects the gift of Reverence: the Fear of the Lord. The spirit is grounded by the Fear of the Lord, just as silicon dioxide grounds the body. By setting boundaries, it gives strength, and avoids “collapse” from a life misaligned with God.
Black Onyx highlights the importance of unseen structures. Collagen is vital, although we can’t see it stretch. In the same vein, every aspect of our journey is supported by unseen reverence for God.
From an elemental perspective, Black Onyx is tied strongly to Earth, (Not surprisingly), with subtle resonance to Water. The Earth element anchors us in stability and structure, while water helps us process emotions without becoming overwhelmed.
In the human body, the minerals and frequencies of Black Onyx connect most closely with the Reverence to God, our foundation for physical and spiritual security. Unlike the New Age view, who see the root chakra at the bottom and going up, the seven Spirits of God understanding recognizes the brain as the start and descending down through the organs from the eyes to the lumbar and returns back to Heaven and this repeats as we will always receive something new from God.
I have found that while studying the Hebrew language, where the seven Spirits reside also in the Living Letters, the sixth later “VAV’ means “Heaven to Earth. I believe there is a connection with Vav and the brain that brings God’s words, from Heaven to Earth, where it is burned spiritually with the other thoughts we obtain daily and burned together, leaving those things that don’t match up with God’s word as stubble on the altar. The Prophet knows the word and it is passed to the rest of the areas in the body.
I have done research and am working on some projects to go deeper into this study. I believe that the concept of the seven Spirits, the gifts and the tabernacle were stolen from God by satan and then reversed. There’s a verse that the gifts of God are given without repentance, they are irrevocable. Satan knew this and they have been used wrongly. It’s time they are used as they were originally created for.
Historical and Cultural Significance
Throughout history, Black Onyx has been known as a stone of protection and perseverance.
- Ancient Romans carved Black Onyx into seals and amulets, believing it gave warriors courage and control in battle.
- Middle Eastern cultures used it as a protective talisman against negativity and to ward off the “evil eye.”
- In Indian tradition, Black Onyx was believed to help release past attachments, allowing a person to stand strong in their present life.
- The name “onyx” comes from the Greek word for “claw” or “fingernail,” hinting at its strength and its layered, protective nature.
Biblical + Spiritual Reference
When I think about Black Onyx, I think of a stone that knows how to stand its ground. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t sparkle to get attention. It simply stays—solid, steady, unshaken. That reminds me of something the Bible calls the Fear of the Lord.
Now, this “fear” isn’t about being scared. It’s about reverence—deep respect and awe for the God who made us. It’s that moment when you look up at a night sky full of stars and remember just how small you are… and just how big He is.
Isaiah 11:2 lists the Seven Spirits of God, ending with the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord. In Hebrew understanding, this kind of reverence is foundational—it’s the very root of wisdom. And in a fascinating way, Black Onyx works much the same way in our lives. It helps us stand on solid ground, body and spirit, so we can move through life with a calm strength rooted in something bigger than ourselves.
It’s a reminder that the safest place we can stand is in God’s presence, anchored by His truth.
Physical + Emotional Benefits
Black Onyx is often used to:
- Strengthen the connection between mind and body.
- Reduce mental chatter so you can focus on what matters.
- Promoting feelings of safety and stability connecting the element frequencies to the above areas listed under Silicon Dioxide.
- Assist in releasing fear, anxiety, and emotional baggage from the past.
Physically, it’s thought to support stamina, aid in absorbing needed minerals, and help the body adapt to stress. Emotionally, it gives a grounded courage—a quiet confidence that lets you move forward without losing your center.
Pairings + Practical Use
Black Onyx pairs beautifully with:
- Tiger’s Eye for focus and courage.
- Amber for warmth and balance.

It’s suitable for transitional times, major choices, and shielding against negativity. Pray, keep it with you, or put it in a bracelet.

Short PDFs on Etsy
I am writing short pdfs on Etsy about the jewelry and other topics that I will do larger productions more in depth later. I’m in a season currently where I’m doing a lot of writing.
